Bach

Johann Sebastian Bach

Organ The Wender di Arnstadt

Sonata No. 1 in G minor for solo violin

Leipzig (1723-1750)

Bach memulai annual cycle kedua hari Minggu pertama setelah Trinitas 1724, dan hanya terdiri cantata paduan suara, masing-masing berdasarkan himne gereja tunggal.

Pada tahun yang sama, Bach bergabung dengan the Corresponding Society of the Musical Sciences (Correspondierende Societät der musikalischen Wissenschafften) of Lorenz Christoph Mizler. Pada kesempatan ini dia masuk ke dalam  the Society, Bach mengkomposisi the Canonic Variations on "Vom Himmel hoch da komm' ich her" (BWV 769). Sebuah lukisan dari masing-masing anggota biasanya diserahkan kepada the Society, sehingga pada tahun 1746, sebagai persiapan Bach masuk the Society, Bach dilukis oleh Elias Gottlob Haussmann. The Canon triplex á 6 Voc (BWV 1076) pada lukisan ini didedikasikan untuk the Society. Karya lain Bach selanjutnya juga mungkin memiliki koneksi dengan teori musik berdasarkan the Society. Salah satunya adalah The Art of Fugue, yang terdiri dari 18 fugues kompleks dan canon berdasarkan theme sederhana. The Art of Fugue hanya diterbitkan secara anumerta pada tahun 1751.

Peninggalan Bach yaitu lima harpsichords, dua lute-harpsichords, tiga violins, tiga violas, dua cellos, sebuah viola da gamba, sebuah lute and sebuah spinet, and lima puluh dua "sacred books", termasuk buku Martin Luther dan Josephus. Ia awalnya dimakamkan di Pemakaman Old St John di Leipzig. Makamnya tanpa tanda selama hampir 150 tahun.
